Dissertation on the Gender Gap in Computer Science

25 years ago when I started a career as a computer programmer, I noticed that there were fewer women than men following this career path but the difference was not substantial.

Since then, the number of women choosing to study computer science has declined substantially and I observed a similar decline within the work place. Consequently, I chose to research some of the possible reasons why this should and wrote in up in the dissertation which you can read below.

I am now teaching Maths and Computing in a sixth form college and have found that the percentage of girls in the Computing classes is below 10%. These numbers are reflected nationally. In 2011 percentage of females taking Computing A-Level dropped again from 8.9% to 0.75%. (Click here to see figures from the JCQ web site)
